I am still undecided on the name for this sculpture. The Storm Chaser, or the Storm Catcher due to it being designed to take everything the weather can throw at it. I am thinking i will go with the Storm Catcher. I have successfully built it up completely and it is on test on a test rig in my garden. I am very pleased with how well it went together.
Although it isn't really very well situated for maximum wind so I am going to mount it on a higher pole in a different position in my garden but this means that I have to dismantle it and re build it in the new position. And install a higher pole somewhere in my garden. It would be handy if I had a fork lift I could use. It is not a major problem, just need it to stop raining so i can do it.
I have noticed that it does not track the wind properly, mainly due to its weight so I need to add some surface area at the back to help it track the wind better and also remove some weight from the nose cone so that it is better balanced. So I will need to order in some metal so I can do this in between the move. I did expect this I just was so excited and wanted to see the finished article in the flesh before I go on holiday, I wanted to see if it looked as good as I envisaged it looking during the deign stage. And yes it does, it does not disappoint. The extra seals also slow the blades down, might be a bit of over kill, so I might remove them. I am very pleased with how this has turned out. But sadly I will not get this done before my holiday, so it will have to wait until I return. I have also been working on a new design. Something completely different and have made a prototype chassis and again this is going to have to wait until I return from my holiday. See my Work in Progress page for pictures. So much to do, so much I want to do, I almost want to cancel the holiday as I am enjoying making these sculptures so much. Life could not get any better.
